Sawdust has joined the Catskill Gallery Association adding another fresh art venue to Main Street. Owner-artist, Brandon Chrisjohn, will feature his own rich sculptures, as well as a selection of cutting-edge artists. The inaugural exhibition and special reception is slated from 6-9pm.

“Lawrence Calcagno (1913-1993) – One Man Show”

Lawrence Calcagno, an artist of international stature, was born in 1913. Self-taught until after World War II, he studied painting with Clyfford Still, Mark Rothko and Ad Reinhardt, then attended the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris and the Instituto d’ Arte Statale in Florence, Italy. Calcagno’s work is in the permanent collections in many noted museums across the country.
Gallery 42, located in a historic home in Catskill, NY, is open from 6-8 pm on the third Saturday of each month for Catskill gallery tour and by appointment. (518) 943-2642

The space will feature the photographic documentary of Rivka Katvan. Rivka’s subject “Catskill: An American Village” brings this growing town to light by focusing on the daily lives of its residents. A reception will be held at Union Mills, 351 Main Street from 6-8pm and the exhibition will run through the end of the month.

Cannon Hersey’s panoramic photographs show the great temples, fortresses and redoubts that line the major passages from China through Tibet and Nepal. Aaron Yassin’s kaleidoscopic images depict the historic bridges and mansions that line the Hudson River Valley.
